1937 Bygget som hvalbåt SOUTHERN GEM ved Bremer Vulkan, Vegesack, Tyskland for Unilevers eide Southern Whaling & Sealing Co. Ltd. (Irvin & Johnson), London. Levert i oktober.
Bygget etter samme tegninger som SOUTHERN PRIDE (levert året før av Smith’s Dock), men falt ikke i skytternes smak grunnet trege egenskaper under manøvrering som skyldtes det tyngre tyske stålet i skrogplatene. Fanget for Unilever frem til krigen startet.

1940 Rekvirert av Royal Navy i mars og utstyrt som minesveiper HMS SOUTHERN GEM (K 247). Klasset som ASW-Whaler og opererte hovedsakelig som eskorteskip for konvoiene på Europa-Afrika.
1941 Innkjøpt av Chr. Salvesen & Co., Leith i september, mens under militær kommando. (Inngikk i handelen da Salvesen kjøpte opp Unilevers fangstflåte).
1945 Returnert til eier i april. Fanget for Fl/k EMPIRE VICTORY i britenes ”fellesdrift” ekspedisjon, sesongen 1945/46.
1946 I sesongene 1946/47 til og med 1952/53 i vekselvis fangst for Fl/k SOUTHERN HARVESTER og SOUTHERN VENTURER.
1947 For sesongen 1947/48 var Sverre Akseth skytter.
1948 Fanger for SOUTHERN HARVESTER sesongen 1948/49. Skytter var Andreas H Anthonsen, Husøysund. Sesongen startet med spermfangst fra 20/11. Langhvalen kom etter 15/12. Fangstbestyrer var Konrad Granøe.
1949 Fangstsesongen 1948/49 ble avsluttet 26/03. Resultat av fangsten 1948/49 ble 146.699 fat hvalolje, 15.578 fat spermolje.
Fanger for SOUTHERN HARVESTER sesongen 1949/50. Fangstbestyrer var Konrad Granøe. Spermfangsten begynte 15/12.
1950 Resultatet av fangsten 1949/50 ble 298 blåhval, 1002 finnhval, 26 knølhval, 31 seihval og 264 spermhval. Av dette ble produksjonen 102.486 fat hvalolje, 14.709 fat spermolje. I tillegg ble det produsert 2.323 tonn mel av hvalkjøtt, 168,8 tonn mel av hvallever og 5.480 gallons olje av hvallever.
SOUTHERN HARVESTER og hvalbåtene forlater fangstfeltet 15/03-1950. Kursen for kokeriet på vei til Tønsberg går via Leith Harbour hvor alle hvalbåtene skal legges i opplag og klargjøres for neste sesong.
Fanger for SOUTHERN HARVESTER sesongen 1950/51. For sesongen var det 15 hvalbåter som deltok.
1952 I sesongen 1952/53 ble den operert som bøyebåt. Skytter var Alv Andersen.
1953 I opplag på Stromness, Syd-Georgia som reservebåt 1953 til 1955,
1955 Bøyebåt i sesongen 1955/56 med Alv Andersen som skytter.
1956 Reservebåt i 1956/57-sesongen.
1960 Bøyebåt for SOUTHERN VENTURER i siste aktive sesong, 1960/61
1961 Bragt til Melsomvik for opplag etter siste antarktiske innsats.
1962 I juli solgt til hugging ved Brødrene Anda, Stavanger, og hugget i august
1937 Built as whale catcher SOUTHERN GEM by Bremer Vulkan, Vegesack, Germany for Unilever’s Southern Whaling & Sealing Co. Ltd., (Irvin & Johnson), London. Delivered in October.
Built from the construction drawings of SOUTHERN PRIDE delivered by Smith’s Dock the previous year. She did not perform properly, and not a favourite amongst the gunners caused by the hulls slow respond from the rudder. Reason seems to be too heavy German steel hullplates. Catching for the Unilever company until outbreak of war.

1940 Requisitioned by Royal Navy in March. Converted to minesweeper, named HMS SOUTHERN GEM (K 247) and classed as ASW-Whaler. Mainly used as escort vessel for the Europe-Africa convoys.
1941 Purchased by The South Georgia Co. Ltd., (Chr. Salvesen & Co., Leith), Scotland in September, whilst under the Royal Navy (RN) command (included in the deal as Salvesen purchased the whole whaling fleet from Unilever)
1945 In April, returned to owners. Catching for the Fl/F EMPIRE VICTORY (ex. UNITAS) expedition in the first British post war season 1945/46.
1946 From the season of 1946/47 to 1952/53, catching for Salvesen’s factory ships SOUTHERN HARVESTER and SOUTHERN VENTURER.
1947 For the 1947/48 season, Sverre Akseth was the shooter.
1948 Catcher for SOUTHERN HARVESTER season 1948/49. The shooter was Andreas H. Anthonsen, Husøysund. The season started with sperm catching from 20/11. The Baleen whale arrived after 15/12. Whaling manager was Konrad Granøe.
1949 The 1948/49 fishing season ended on 26/03. The result of the 1948/49 catch was 146,699 barrels of whale oil, 15,578 barrels of sperm oil.
Catching for SOUTHERN HARVESTER season 1949/50. Catch manager was Konrad Granøe. Sperm capture began 15/12.
1950 The result of the 1949/50 catch was 298 blue whales, 1.002 fin whales, 26 humpback whales, 31 saithe whales and 264 sperm whales. Of this, production was 102,486 barrels of whale oil, 14,709 barrels of sperm oil. In addition, 2,323 tonnes of whale meat meal, 168.8 tonnes of whale liver meal and 5,480 gallons of whale liver oil were produced.
SOUTHERN HARVESTER and the whale boats leave the catch field 15/03-1950. The course for the cookery on the way to Tønsberg goes via Leith Harbor where all the whale boats will be put into storage and prepared for next season.

1952 In the 1952/53 season, it was operated as a buoy boat. The shooter was Alv Andersen.
1953 Laid up at Stromness, South Georgia from 1953 to 1955, plus the 1956/57-season.
1960 Buoy boat for the SOUTHERN VENTURER expedition in her last Antarctic season, 1960/61.
1961 Brought to Melsomvik, Norway for lay-up.
1962 In July, sold to Brødrene Anda, (Anda Bros.), Stavanger, Norway for breaking up. Scrapped in August.
