1936 Bygget som hvalbåt SOUTHERN SEA (2) av Bremer Vulkan, Vegesack for Southern Whaling & Sealing Co., (N. C. Watts, disp.), London. Levert i mai. Registrert i Cape Town. Fartøyet arvet navnet etter en tidligere båt i samme selskap som forliste i Antarktis, desember 1929.
Det ble bygget fem identiske hvalbåter for Unilever konsernets hvalfangstselskap Southern Whaling & Sealing Co
I fangst for kokeriet SOUTHERN PRINCESS sesongen 1936/37.
1937 Ekspedisjonens resultat for sesongen 1936/37 ble 125.515 hvalolje fat og 190 fat spermolje
I fangst for kokeriet SOUTHERN PRINCESS sesongen 1937/38.
1938 Ekspedisjonens resultat for sesongen 1937/38 ble 113.440 fat hvalolje og 125 fat spermolje.
I fangst for kokeriet SOUTHERN PRINCESS sesongen 1938/39 m/8 hvalbåter. Fire registrert i Cape Town og fire i Port Stanley, FI.
1939 Ekspedisjonens resultat for sesongen 1938/39 ble 85.620 fat hvalolje og 173 fat spermolje. Hvalbåtene legges opp i Durban over sommeren og klargjøre for neste sesong. Kokeriet gikk videre til Liverpool via Durban med ankomst Bromborough Dock, Liverpool 18/04.

1940 Ekspedisjonens resultat for sesongen 1938/39 ble 78.000 fat hvalolje
Rekvirert i mars av Royal Navy, men snart etter overført til den Syd-afrikanske marinen. Satt i tjeneste som anti U-båt jager HMSAS SOUTHERN SEA (T 470), senere T 30, tilhørende 22nd. Anti Submarine Group med base i Alexandria Egypt og med Middelhavet som virkeområde.
1941 Kjøpt av Salvesens The South Georgia Co. Ltd. i september mens under militær kommando. Navn og reg. havn uendret.
Unilever besluttet å ikke gjenoppta hvalfangst etter krigen og solgte SW&S totale fangstflåte på to kokerier og 15 hvalbåter til Salvesen over ett.
1945 I likhet med tre andre ex- Southern Whaling & Sealing Co hvalbåter kom hun aldri i fangst for Salvesen (SOUTHERN MAID, SOUTHERN ISLES OG SOUTHERN FLOE). Hun ble solgt i januar til Union Government of South Africa. Navn uendret.
1946 I mai solgt til Union Whaling Co. Ltd., (A. E. Larsen), Durban. Gjenutrustet for hvalfangst. Klasset i Lloyd’s BS* og fikk ZSQQ som nytt kallesignal. Fanget for Fl/k EMPIRE VICTORY i den antarktiske sesongen 1946/47. Gikk fra Durban 07/11 sammen med resten av flåten med kurs for hvalfeltet. Til sammen 12 hvalbåter deltok.
1947 I fangst for kokeriet EMPIRE VICTORY sesongen 1947/48 under navnet UNI 4. Skytter var Chr. Torleif Thoresen
1948 I fangst for kokeriet EMPIRE VICTORY sesongen 1948/49.
1949 Ekspedisjonens resultat for sesongen 1948/49 ble 133.398 fat hvalolje og 27.330 fat sperm olje.
I fangst for kokeriet EMPIRE VICTORY sesongen 1949/50.
1950 Ekspedisjonen avslutter fangsten og begynner på hjemveien 16/03 med kurs for Durban. 15 hvalbåter har deltatt i fangsten. Kokeriet går videre til Sandefjord via Durban og Liverpool.

The vessel inherited the name from a previous boat in the same company that sank in Antarctica, December 1929.

1937 The expedition's result for the 1936/37 season was 125,515 whale oil barrels and 190 barrels of sperm oil.

1939 The expedition's result for the 1938/39 season was 85,620 barrels of whale oil and 173 barrels of sperm oil. The whale boats are laid up in Durban over the summer and prepare for the next season. The factory ship went on to Liverpool via Durban with arrival at Bromborough Dock, Liverpool 18/04.
SOUTHERN SEA is re-registered in London, new call sign MNBM.

Requisitioned in March by Royal Navy and transferred to the South African Navy for service as anti-submarine vessel HMSAS SOUTHERN SEA (T 470, later T 30) for 22nd. A/S Group based at Alexandria Egypt.
1941 Purchased in September by Salvesen whilst under military command. Name unchanged.
Unilever decided not to re-enter whaling after WWII and sold the entire Southern Whaling & Sealing Co fleet (two factories and 15 catchers) to Salvesen.
1945 As three other former Southern Whaling & Sealing Co catchers, she never gets in service as a Salvesen catcher. In January sold to Union Government of South Africa.
1946 Sold in May to Union Whaling Co. Ltd., (A E Larsen, manager), Durban. Refitted as whale catcher. Catcher for Fl/F EMPIRE VICTORY, during the Antarctic seasons of 1946/47. Left Durban 07/11 together with the rest of the fleet with a course for the whaling ground. A total of 12 whale boats participated
