1936 Bygget som hvalbåt GLOBE VIII ved Moss Værft & Dokk, Moss for Hvalfangerselskapet Globus A/S (Melsom & Melsom, Nanset), Larvik. Sjøsatt 31/07 og levert 21/09-1936 som en av de siste fra Moss Værft & Dokk for Hvalfangerselskapet Globus A/S før GLOBE IX (1937) og GLOBE X (1947). Byggesum var NOK 435.000.
Fanger for kokeriet LANCING i sesongen 1936/37. Fangsten startet 08/12-1936.
1937 Sesongen avsluttes 07/03-1937. Resultatet sesongen 1936/37 ble 68.158 fat hvalolje og 286 fat spermolje
Hvalbåtene ankommer Larvik 24-25/04. Kokeriet ankom 28/04.
Fanger for LANCING sesongen 1937/38. Totalt 7 hvalbåter deltar. Hvalbåtene forlater Larvik 18/10 og bunkrer i St. Vincent på Kapp Verde 10/11.
Sesongen 1938/39 i fangst for LANCING. Totalt 7 hvalbåter.

1939 Fangstresultatet for sesongen 1938/39 ble 60.923 fat hvalolje og 100 fat spermolje.
Går til Sydishavet for sesongen 1939/40 for fangst med LANCING og hvalbåtene GLOBE I, II, V, VI, VII, og IX. Hans Mathisen var fangstbestyrer for ekspedisjonen. Langhval fangsten tok til 08/12. Spermfangsten startet 20/11.
1940 Fangsten pågikk til 07/03. Oljeproduksjonen ble 68.450 fat hvalolje og 1.820 fat spermolje. Av fangsten var 325 blåhval.
1941 Unngikk å bli oppbragt av den tyske hjelpekrysseren PINGUIN i isen 14 januar da denne kapret tre hvalkokerier og 11 hvalbåter i Antarktis. Var da i fangst som en del av OLE WEGGER-ekspedisjonen og klarte å slippe unna.
Kaptein og skytter Johan Kjellstrøm på GLOBE VIII oppfattet situasjonen og fikk advart THORSHAMMER-ekspedisjonen slik at kokeri og hvalbåter kom seg unna og ble reddet fra tysk fangenskap. Kaptein Kjellstrøm fikk annerkjennelse fra det britiske admiralitet via Nortraship i London for denne resolutte opptreden.
GLOBE VIII ble innleid av Royal Navy (RN) i november.
1942 Innleid av den amerikanske War Shipping Administration og innlemmet i US Coast Guard som GLOBE EIGHT (WYP380) fra 29/12 som patrulje båt, og stasjonert i San Francisco, California. Regningen for ombyggingen kostet $13.750.
1943 Tilbakelevert til War Shipping Administration (Royal Navy) 4 juli.
Satt i fangst igjen fra høsten av for sesongen 1943/44, med THORSHAMMER-ekspedisjonen som base.
Kort til før jul med 8 hvalbåter via Panama-kanalen med kurs for feltet. Sesongen skulle starte i desember.
1944 Ankom Sydishavet ved Sandwichøyene 20/01. Etter ca 3 uker gikk hele ekspedisjonen til Leith Harbour på Syd Georgia for lossing av hvalolje. 20/02 gikk kursen sydover igjen. Fangsten ble avsluttet 10-15/04, og utbyttet ble 837 blå- og finnhval. Og en produksjon på 82.600 fat.
Kursen ble satt for Valparaiso, Chile for seilings ordre. Ankom ca 25/04 for deretter å gå med retning Houston, Texas via Panama kanalen. Avgikk Cristobal på Atlanterhavssiden 28/04 og ankom i konvoi Guantanamo 02/05. Derfra til New York med ankomst 10/05. Avgikk Boston 17/05 og Ankom Halifax 19/05.

1945 Sommer opplag og overhaling, samt utrustning til Walvis Bay. Fanger for SIR JAMES CLARK ROSS-ekspedisjonen i sesongen 1945/46
1946 Fangstresultat for sesongen 1945/46 ble 119.546 fat og 10.638 sekker hvalkjøttmel og 89 tonn saltet hvallever og 8 fangstbåter
GLOBE VIII overhales ved Porsgrund mek. Værksted denne sommeren.
Fanger igjen for Melsom & Melsom og er tilknyttet det nye kokeriet NORHVAL i sesongen 1946/47. Kokeriet NORHVAL og hvalbåtene POL VI, VII, X, GLOBE VIII, IX, ENERN, TIERN og THORIS gikk fra Larvik 05/10 og var innom Las Palmas 15/10, videre 17/10 med ankomst Cape Town 04/11. Kokeriet og hvalbåt CAPITAN NUNES og hvalbåter nevnt tidligere (utenom GLOBE IX) forlot Cape Town mot feltet 07/11. Hvalbåten GLOBE IX forlot Cape Town 10/11.
1947 Fangstresultat for sesongen 1946/47 ble ca 176.600 fat med 9 fangstbåter.

1966 Solgt til opphugging i Masnedø, Danmark.

Left for the Arctic Ocean for the 1939/40 season as catcher for factory LANCING together with GLOBE I, II, V, VI, VII, and IX. Hans Mathisen was the whaling manager for the expedition. The season started 08/12.
1941 Escaped from the German raider PINGUIN in an attempt to seize some of the Norwegian whaling fleets in the Antarctic the 14/01. The catch of PINGUIN was three whaling factories and 11 catchers. GLOBE VIII was a part of the OLE WEGGER-expedition and escaped.
Captain and shooter Johan Kjellstrøm on GLOBE VIII perceived the situation and was able to warn the THORSHAMMER expedition so that the factory and whalecatchers got away and were saved from German captivity. Captain Kjellstrøm received recognition from the British Admiralty via Nortraship in London for this resolute performance.
GLOBE VIII was commissioned by the Royal Navy (RN) in November.
1942 Hired by the American War Shipping Administration and started as the patrol boat GLOBE EIGHT (WYP380) in the US Coast Guard from 29th of December. The Globe Eight performed patrol duty in the WESTSEAFRON and was stationed at San Francisco, California. The cost of conversion to patrol boat was $13.750.
1943 Returned to the War Shipping Administration 04/07. Equipped for a new season of whaling for the 1943/44 season with the THORSHAMMER-expedition.
Shortly before Christmas with 8 catchers via the Panama Canal with course for the field. The whaling season should start in December.
1944 Arrived at the South Sea at the Sandwich Islands 20/01. After about 3 weeks, the entire expedition went to Leith Harbor in South Georgia for the discharge of whale oil. 20/02 the course went south again. The catch was ended 10-15/04, and the catch had been 837 blue and fin whales. A production result of 82,600 barrels.
The course was set for Valparaiso, Chile for the sailing order. Arrived about 25/04 then to go direction Houston, Texas via the Panama Canal. Departed Cristobal on the Atlantic side 28/04 and arrived in convoy Guantanamo 02/05. From there to New York with arrival 10/05. Left Boston 17/05 and arrived Halifax 19/05.
Catching for the SIR JAMES CLARK ROSS during season of 1944/45
1945 Returned to base in Walvis Bay after end of season for repair, restoring and summer lay-up. Again, catching for the SIR JAMES CLARK ROSS-expedition the season of 1945/46.
1946 Catch result for the 1945/46 season was 119,546 barrels and 10,638 sacks of whale meat meal and 89 tonnes of salted whale liver with 8 catchers
GLOBE VIII was repaired and maintained at Porsgrund mek. Værksted this summer.
Catches again for Melsom & Melsom and is associated with the new whaling factory NORHVAL in the 1946/47 season. The factory NORHVAL and the whale catcher POL VI, VII, X, GLOBE VIII, IX, ENERN, TIERN and THORIS left Larvik on 05/10 and visited Las Palmas on 15/10, then on 17/10 with arrival in Cape Town on 04/11. The factory and catcher CAPITAN NUNES and catcher mentioned earlier (except GLOBE IX) left Cape Town for the whaling ground 07/11. The catcher GLOBE IX left Cape Town on 10/11.
1947 Whaling result for season 1946/47 was abt. 176.600 bbls with 9 catchers.

Left the summer lay-up in Durban 02/12 together with 5 other catchers and the factory NORHVAL for the season of 1949/50. Arrival the whaling ground on 12/12. Shooter in the 1949/50 season was A. Juul Jensen. Catching for Flk NORHVAL.
1951 The season of 1951/52 and to the end of season 1952/53 she was used as a buoy boat. Catching for Flk NORHVAL
1953 Her last whaling season came to an end, and she went in the lay-up mode at her home port in Larvik.
1955 Sold to P/F Hvalavibufelag Faroe Islands, renamed SUMBA. Registered in Torshavn, Faroe Islands.
1962 Sold to P/F Treyst Torshavn, Faroe Island.
1966 Sold to breaking in Masnedø, Denmark.
