1946 Bygget som flytende hvalkokeri SOUTHERN HARVESTER av Furness Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., Haverton Hill for regning av The South Georgia Co. Ltd. (Chr. Salvesen & Co.), Leith. Sjøsatt 02/05, og overlevert i oktober til eierne, rederiet The South Georgia Co. Ltd., Salvesens flaggskip. Identisk med kokeriet SOUTHERN VENTURER, levert 1945, men med kraftigere fremdriftsmaskineri.
Kokeriene var bygget på samme lest som SVEND FOYN og NORHVAL, bygget av Furness i henholdsvis i 1931 og 1945.
I antarktisk pelagisk fangst fra 1946/47-sesongen.
Fangstbestyrer/kaptein var norsk, skipsmannskap og offiserer var hovedsakelig briter, mens flensere og prosessoperatører i all hovedsak var nordmenn.
Fl/k SOUTHERN HARVESTER gikk fra Haverton Hill, Tees 26/10. Ankom Tenerife 02/11 for opplasting av bunkers for ekspedisjonen 02/11. Gikk videre 04/11 og ankom Leith Harbour 22/11.
Hvalbåter for sesongen 1946/47 var SOUTHERN SOLDIER, SIMBRA, SOUTHERN STAR, SOUTHERN SHORE, SOUTHERN SPRAY, SOLVRA, SOUTHERN WILCOX, SAHRA, SATSA, SOUTHERN FOAM.
Hele ekspedisjonen forlot Leith Harbour 30/11 med kurs for hvalfeltet.
1947 I fangst sesongen 1947/48 med 15 hvalbåter. Av disse var to delvis ombygde korvetter.
1948 Resultatet av fangsten 1947/48 ble 122.113 fat hvalolje, 19.222 fat spermolje. 619 mann var med denne sesongen.
Hvalbåter for sesongen 1948/49 var SOUTHERN BRIAR (1940), SOUTHERN WILCOX (1945), SOUTHERN SOLDIER (1946), SOUTHERN GEM (1937), SOUTHERN WHEELER (1945), SATSA (1936), SOUTHERN STAR (1930), SOUTHERN SHORE (1928), SOUTHERN STRIFE (1945), SOUTHERN FOAM (1926) og SOUTHERN WAVE (1925). Sesongen startet med spermfangst fra 20/11. Langhvalen kom etter 15/12. Fangstbestyrer var Konrad Granøe.
1949 Fangstsesongen 1948/49 ble avsluttet 26/03. Resultat av fangsten 1948/49 ble 146.699 fat hvalolje, 15.578 fat spermolje.
SOUTHERN HARVESTER forlater Newcastle 03/11 med kurs for Tønsberg for å plukke opp fangstmannskap til kokeri og hvalbåter. Ankommer 05/11 og går sydover 09/11 via Teneriffe for bunkering for sesongen. Ankommer 17/11 og går videre 19/11 for Syd Georgia. Ankommer 09/12 og går videre 14/12 med kurs for fangstfeltet. 8 av hvalbåtene har vært overhalt på Leith Harbour denne sommeren.
I fangst i Sydishavet sesongen 1949/50 med hvalbåtene SOUTHERN RANGER (1949), SOUTHERN RUNNER (1949), SOUTHERN SOLDIER (1946), SOUTHERN GEM (1937), SOUTHERN WILCOX (1945), SOUTHERN WHEELER (1945), SOUTHERN STRIFE (1945), SOUTHERN BRIAR (1940), SOUTHERN WAVE (1925), SATSA (1936), SARKA (1936) og korvettene SOUTHERN LUPIN (1940) og SOUTHERN LARKSPUR (1940), Fangstbestyrer var Konrad Granøe. Spermfangsten begynte 15/12.
1950 Resultatet av fangsten 1949/50 ble 298 blåhval, 1002 finnhval, 26 knølhval, 31 seihval og 264 spermhval. Av dette ble produksjonen 102.486 fat hvalolje, 14.709 fat spermolje. I tillegg ble det produsert 2.323 tonn mel av hvalkjøtt, 168,8 tonn mel av hvallever og 5.480 gallons olje av hvallever.
SOUTHERN HARVESTER og hvalbåtene forlater fangstfeltet 15/03-1950. Kursen for kokeriet på vei til Tønsberg går via Leith Harbour hvor alle hvalbåtene skal legges i opplag og klargjøres for neste sesong. Ankommer 18/03 og går videre 23/03 via St. Vincent og London. Ankommer Tønsberg 05/05.
Blir overhalt ved verkstedet Middle Dock & Engineering Co Ltd., South Shield denne sommeren.
For sesongen 1950/51 var det 15 hvalbåter. Av disse var SOUTHERN AUTOR (1950), SOUTHERN RANGER (1949), SOUTHERN RUNNER (1949), SOUTHERN WILCOX (1945), SOUTHERN WHEELER (1945), SOUTHERN GEM (1937), SOUTHERN BRIAR (1940), SIGFRA (1937), SOUTHERN MAIN (1945), SOUTHERN ACTOR (b. 1950 Sevilla Whaling). Bøyebåter var SOUTHERN SHORE (1928 Sevilla Whaling), SOUTHERN TRUCE (1945), SOUTHERN STRIFE (1945), og korvettene SOUTHERN LILY (1941), SOUTHERN LARKSPUR (1940)
1955 I kokeriets rekordsesong 1955/56 produserte man 174.912 fat hvalolje og overgikk andre ekspedisjoner denne sesong med god margin.
1956 En svakere fangstsesong, men kronet med kongelig besøk ved nyttårstider:
Under hjemtur med HMY BRITANNIA fra sommer-OL i Melbourne 1956 via fangstfeltet i Antarktis, avla Hertugen av Edinburgh, Prince Philip besøk om bord i kokeriet. Etter omvisning om bord og stor ståhei ble det kongelige følget traktert med saltkjøtt, flesk og ertesuppe i en av skipets messer. Prinsen uttrykte stor takk for denne erfaringen som også omfattet visitt på Leith Harbour, og tur på feltet med hvalbåt.
1963 En æra er over. Etter en svak 1962/63 sesong, ankret kokeriet opp i Melsomvik i april med en maskinskadet korvett, SOUTHERN LOTUS, på slep. Senere denne sommer tok rederiet den tunge beslutning å gi opp all hvalfangst, kvotene var ikke regningssvarende. SOUTHERN HARVESTERS sommeropplag ble permanent. Med SOUTHERN HARVESTER gikk også Tønsbergs eksakt 100 år gamle tilknytning til hvalfangst inn i historien.
Under sine 17 antarktiske fangstsesonger hadde SOUTHERN HARVESTER et samlet produksjonsresultat på 2.081.912 fat.
I august solgt til Nippon Suisan (KK) Kaisha Ltd., Tokyo. Navn uendret. Japanerne var kun interessert i kvoten og skipet forble i Melsomvik.
1966 I juli, tilbakekjøpt av The South Georgia Co. Ltd. (Chr. Salvesen & Co.), Leith.
Videresolgt i oktober for $ 565.000 til Akers A/S, Oslo som planla å konvertere kokeriet til et boreskip, for prøveboring i Nordsjøen. Slept til Nyland Øst, (Gamle Nylands Verksted). Navn uendret. Ombygnings-planene ble aldri realisert.
1971 Etter lang tids opplag i Oslo solgte Akers A/S skipet for hugging til Recuperaciones Submarinos SA, Santander, Spania.
Ankom Santander under slep 21/06.
1972 Hugget i løpet av vinteren.

1946 Built as factory ship SOUTHERN HARVESTER by Furness Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., Haverton Hill on behalf of The South Georgia Co. Ltd. (Chr. Salvesen & Co.), Leith. Launched 02/05, and commissioned by Salvesen’s The South Georgia Co. Ltd. in October. Sister-ship of Fl/F SOUTHERN VENTURER (1945), but fitted with more powerful engines. (Same Furness-design as Fl/F SVEND FOYN (1931) and Fl/F NORHVAL (1945).
British/Norwegian crew. In Antarctic pelagic whaling from 1946/47-season. Salvesen’s flagship.
Fl/k SOUTHERN HARVESTER left Haverton Hill, Tees 26/10. Arrived in Tenerife 02/11 for loading bunkers for the expedition 02/11. Went on 04/11 and arrived at Leith Harbour 22/11.
Catchers for season 1946/47 were SOUTHERN SOLDIER, SIMBRA, SOUTHERN STAR, SOUTHERN SHORE, SOUTHERN SPRAY, SOLVRA, SOUTHERN WILCOX, SAHRA, SATSA, SOUTHERN FOAM.
The whole expedition left Leith Harbour 30/11 heading for the whaling ground.

SOUTHERN HARVESTER left Newcastle 03/11, heading for Tønsberg to pick up her whaling crew for the factory and catchers for the coming season. Arrived Tønsberg 05/11 and turning south 09/11. Called Tenerife for bunkering fuel for the season. Arrived 17/11 and continued her voyage to South-Georgia 19/11. Arrived South-Georgia 09/12 to meet her 8 catchers being maintained at Leith Harbour between the seasons. Heading for the whaling ground 14/12.
Whaling in the Southern Seas for the season 1949/50 with the catcher SOUTHERN RANGER (1949), SOUTHERN RUNNER (1949), SOUTHERN SOLDIER (1946), SOUTHERN GEM (1937), SOUTHERN WILCOX (1945), SOUTHERN WHEELER (1945), SOUTHERN STRIFE (1945), SOUTHERN BRIAR (1940), SOUTHERN WAVE (1925), SATSA (1936), SARKA (1936) and the corvette SOUTHERN LUPIN (1940) and SOUTHERN LARKSPUR (1940). Whaling manager for the season is Captain Konrad Granøe. The sperm season commenced 15/12.
1950 Total result of 1949/50 season was 298 blue whales, 1002 fin whales, 26 humpbacks, 31 sei whales and 264 sperm whales. Out of this it was produced 102.486 barrels of whale oil, 14.709 barrels of sperm oil. Additionally a production of 2.323 tons whale meat meal, 168,8 tons whale liver meal and 5.480 gallons whale liver oil.
SOUTHERN HARVESTER and catchers left the whaling ground 15/03-1950. Her way to Tønsberg of Norway, was via Leith Harbour, were all her catchers to be maintained and prepared for next season. Factory arrived 18/03 and continued on 23/03 via St. Vincent and London. Arrived Tønsberg 05/05 to deliver her whaling crew.
Maintained at Middle Dock & Engineering Co Ltd., South Shield that summer.
For season 1950/51, there was 15 catchers. Those were  SOUTHERN AUTOR (1950), SOUTHERN RANGER (1949), SOUTHERN RUNNER (1949), SOUTHERN WILCOX (1945), SOUTHERN WHEELER (1945), SOUTHERN GEM (1937), SOUTHERN BRIAR (1940), SIGFRA (1937), SOUTHERN MAIN (1945), SOUTHERN ACTOR (b. 1950, Sevilla Whaling). As buoy boat SOUTHERN SHORE (1928, Sevilla Whaling), SOUTHERN TRUCE (1945), SOUTHERN STRIFE (1945), and the corvett SOUTHERN LILY (1941), SOUTHERN LARKSPUR (1940)
1955 By far the most successful Antarctic whaling expedition in the 55/56-season with record-breaking 174.912 barrels produced.
1956 A modest season, but crowned with Royal Visit late in December:
On voyage to UK from the Olympic Games in Melbourne 1956 with HMY BRITANNIA, The Duke of Edinburgh, HRH Prince Philip and his party visited the factory ship and was lunched with salt beef and pea soup in the mess-room. A few days later, Prince Philip also visited Leith Harbour and one of the shore station’s whale-catchers.
1963 In May, the SOUTHERN HARVESTER arrived Melsomvik near Tønsberg, for the last time, with an engine-troubled corvette, SOUTHERN LOTUS, on tow.
Later that summer, Salvesen decided to withdraw from whaling. The reduced quotas were too small, and the factory ship went into a permanent lay-up mode.
As the SOUTHERN HARVESTER, also the city of Tønsbergs exact 100 years as whaling city ended.
During her 17 years of whaling operation, she had a total production of 2.081.912 barrels of whale oils.
In August, sold to Nippon Suisan (KK) Kaisha Ltd., Tokyo. Name unchanged. The buyers were just interested in her quota, and left the HARVESTER at Melsomvik.
1966 Purchased back by The South Georgia Co. Ltd. (Chr. Salvesen & Co.), Leith in July. In October sold for US$ 565.000 to Akers A/S, Oslo who planned to convert her to a drilling ship for the offshore oil industry. Towed to Nyland East (former Nylands Verksted). Name unchanged.
The planned conversion never came true.
1971 After several years in the lay-up buoys at Oslo, sold by Akers A/S for breaking up to Recuperaciones Submarinos SA, Santander, Spain. Arrived Santander by tug 21/06.
1972 Broken up during the winter.
