1936 Bygget som hvalbåt SOUTHERN MAID av Bremer Vulkan, Vegesack for Unilevers fangstselskap Southern Whaling & Sealing Co.(Lever Bros., N.C. Watts, disp.), London. Levert i mai og registrert i Cape Town.
Det ble bygget fem identiske hvalbåter for Unilever konsernets hvalfangstselskap Southern Whaling & Sealing Co (SOUTHERN MAID (723), SOUTHERN SEAS (724), SOUTHERN BREEZE (725), SOUTHERN ISLES (726) og SOUTHERN GEM (752))

1940 Resultatet for sesongen for ekspedisjonen var 88.512 fat hvalolje og 48 fat spermolje.
Rekvirert i mars av Royal Navy og overført til sydafrikanske myndigheter sammen med SOUTHERN FLOE, SOUTHERN SEA og SOUTHERN ISLES fra samme kompani, Southern Whaling & Sealing Co. Ltd., Durban. Deltok i krigen innleid til Sydafrikanske marine under navnet HMSAS SOUTHERN MAID tilsluttet 22. A/S group SASDF (South African Seaward Defence Force). Hvalbåtene ble kalt «little ships». Omgjort til anti-ubåt-operasjoner og var bevæpnet med 1 x 3 lb kanon (fremover), 20 mm og maskingevær og bemannet med 20-25 sydafrikanske offiserer og menige.
Forlot Syd-Afrika i desember med kurs for Middelhavet tatt i bruk som anti u-båt fartøyet HMSAS SOUTHERN MAID (T-27).
1941 Kjøpt av Salvesen i september mens under militær kommando.
Unilever avgjorde å ikke gjenoppta hvalfangst etter krigen og solgte Southern Whaling & Sealings totale fangstflåte på to kokerier og 15 hvalbåter til Salvesen over ett.
SOUTHERN MAID kom aldri i fangst for Chr. Salvesen & Co. Navn uendret.
1943 Picked up survivors from HMS ERICA (K-50) off Bengazi, North Africa in February.
1945 Returnert til eier i januar, men videresolgt til Union Government of South Africa.
1946 Solgt i mai til Union Whaling Co., Durban. Klasset Lloyd’s som BS* Whaling purposes. Kallesignal ZSQR, registrert i Durban.
Fra 1946/47 sesongen til 1950/50 i pelagisk antarktisk fangst for Fl/k EMPIRE VICTORY (ex UNITAS).

1936 Built as a whale catcher SOUTHERN MAID by Bremer Vulkan, Vegesack for Unilever's capture company Southern Whaling & Sealing Co. (Lever Bros., N.C. Watts, mgrs.), London. Delivered in May and registered in Cape Town.
The vessel inherited the name from a previous boat in the same company that sank in Antarctica, December 1929.
Five identical whale boats were built for the Unilever Group's whaling company Southern Whaling & Sealing Co. (SOUTHERN MAID (723), SOUTHERN SEAS (724), SOUTHERN BREEZE (725), SOUTHERN ISLES (726) and SOUTHERN GEM (752))

Requested in March by the Royal Navy and transferred to the South African authorities together with SOUTHERN FLOE, SOUTHERN SEA and SOUTHERN ISLES from the same company, Southern Whaling & Sealing Co. Ltd., Durban. Participated in the war hired to the South African Navy under the name HMSAS SOUTHERN MAID joined the 22. A/S group SASDF (South African Seaward Defense Force). The whale catchers were called "little ships". Transformed into anti-submarine operations and was armed with 1 x 3 lb cannon (forward), 20 mm and machine gun and manned by 20-25 South African officers and privates.
Left South Africa in December with a course for the Mediterranean taken into use as the anti-submarine vessel HMSAS SOUTHERN MAID (T-27).
1941 Purchased by Salvesen in September while still under military command.
Unilever decided not to resume whaling after the war and sold Southern Whaling & Sealing's total catch fleet of two factories and 15 whale boats to Salvesen over one.
SOUTHERN MAID were never used as catcher for Chr. Salvesen & Co. Name unchanged.
1945 Returned to owner in January, but resold to Union Government of South Africa.
1946 Sold in May to Union Whaling Co., Durban. Classed as Lloyd's BS * Whaling purposes. Call sign ZSQR, registered in Durban.
