1974 Bestilt for levering ved det japanske verkstedet Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. Denne store tankeren ble bestilt på et heller dårlig tidspunkt. I 1973 fikk verdens tankredere et støkk da hele tankmarkedet kollapset etter en embargo satt i sene av Saudi Arabias oljeminister, Yamani. Den opprinnelige eier gikk konkurs lenge før hun var ferdig.
1979 Ferdig bygget som bygg nr. 1016 ved Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd for greske eiere. Navnet var PORTHOS ved sjøsettingen.
Grunnet massive vibrasjon i turbin maskineriet under akteroverkjøring ville de greske eiere kansellere avtalen. Etter mange omganger i rettsapparatet måtte verkstedet selv overta skipet. Hun fikk navnet OPPAMA, eiere var verkstedet.
Som et resultat av rettsakene hadde verkstedet lov til å selge skipet. Skipet ble etter en del megling solgt til Hong Kong Orient Overseas Container Line (C. Y. Tung).
Den nye eieren hadde et oppsiktsvekkende krav for å overta fartøyet. Han forlangte at skipet skulle forlenges med mange meter, og lastekapasiteten økes med 156.000 tonn! Opprinnelig var den på 480.000 tdw.
1981 I 1981 ble hun så forlenget ved Nippon Kokan (NKK) verkstedet i Tsu. Overlevert sine nye eiere og fikk navnet SEAWISE GIANT. Satt i fart mellom Arabiske Gulf og USA.
1986 Innleid som lagerskip ved iranske Hormuz Terminal under Irak-Iran krigen.
1988 Truffet 14/05-1988 under opphold ved iranske Hormuz Terminal av irakiske fly og det ble avfyrt en serie Exocet raketter. Hun ble så sterkt skadet at hun ble betraktet som total Loss.
1989 Vraket solgt til K/S Giant (Norman International A/S Oslo 1), Oslo. Hevet og slept til Keppel Shipyard i Singapore. Undergår en omfattende reparasjon og oppgradering. Oppstår som HAPPY GIANT, under norsk NIS-register, registrert i Oslo.
1991 Solgt til K/S Jahre Viking (c/o Mercur Shipping, Oslo), Sandefjord. Registrert i Sandefjord.
2004 Solgt til First Olsen Tanker og konvertert til FSOP. Omdøpt KNOCK NEVIS. Operert som flytende oljelager utenfor Qatar frem til 2009.
2010 Omdøpt MONT og solgt til Amber Development Corporation og satt under Sierra Leones flag for sin siste reise til opphugging. Ankom i januar Gujarat Alang-Sosiya Shipyard, India for hugging.
Hennes 29 tonn tunge anker er blitt tatt vare på og utstilt ved Hong Kong Maritime Museum.
1974 Ordered for delivery at the Japanese shipyard of Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. This big tanker was ordered at a rather bad time. In 1973, the world's tankers got a shock when the entire tanker market collapsed following an embargo set by Saudi Arabia's oil minister, Yamani. The original owner went bankrupt long before she finished.
1979 Completely built as building no. 1016 by Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd for Greek owners. The name was PORTHOS at sea setting.
Due to massive vibration in the turbine machinery under the stern crossing, the Greek owners would cancel the deal. After many court proceedings, the shipyard had to take over the ship. She got the name OPPAMA, owners were the shipyard.
As a result of the lawsuit, the shipyard was allowed to sell the ship. The ship was sold to Hong Kong Orient Overseas Container Line (C. Y. Tung) after a few brokerages.
The new owner had a sensational requirement to take over the vessel. He demanded that the ship be extended by several meters, and the cargo capacity increased by 156,000 tonnes! Originally it was 480,000 TDW.
1981 In 1981 she was extended by Nippon Kokan (NKK) shipyard in Tsu. Handed over its new owners and was named SEAWISE GIANT. Set on route between the Arab Gulf and the United States.
1986 Hired as a storage tanker at the Iranian Hormuz Terminal during the Iraq-Iran war.
1988 Hit by rocket 14/05-1988 during a stay at the Iranian Hormuz Terminal of Iraqi airplanes and a series of Exocet missiles were fired. She was so severely injured that she was considered total loss.
1989 The wreck sold to K/S Giant (Norman International A/S Oslo 1), Oslo. Raised and towed to Keppel Shipyard in Singapore. Underwent an extensive repair and upgrade. Returned to business as HAPPY GIANT, under the Norwegian NIS Register, registered in Oslo.
1991 Sold to K/S Jahre Viking (c/o Mercur Shipping, Oslo), Sandefjord. Registered in Sandefjord.
2004 Sold to First Olsen Tanker and converted to FSOP. Renamed KNOCK NEVIS. Operated as liquid oil storage outside Qatar until 2009.
2010 Renamed MONT and sold to Amber Development Corporation and sat under the Sierra Leone flag for its last journey to cessation. Arrived in January Gujarat Alang-Sosiya Shipyard, India for breaking.
Her 29 tons heavy anchor has been taken care of and exhibited by the Hong Kong Maritime Museum.
