Det ble bygget fem identiske hvalbåter for Unilever konsernets hvalfangstselskap Southern Whaling & Sealing Co (SOUTHERN MAID (723), SOUTHERN SEAS (724), SOUTHERN BREEZE (725), SOUTHERN ISLES (726) og SOUTHERN GEM (752))
I fangst for kokeriet SOUTHERN PRINCESS sesongen 1936/37.
1937 Ekspedisjonens resultat for sesongen 1936/37 ble 125.515 hvalolje fat og 190 fat spermolje
I fangst for kokeriet SOUTHERN PRINCESS sesongen 1937/38.
1938 Ekspedisjonens resultat for sesongen 1937/38 ble 113.440 fat hvalolje og 125 fat spermolje.
I fangst for kokeriet SOUTHERN PRINCESS sesongen 1938/39 m/8 hvalbåter. Fire registrert i Cape Town og fire i Port Stanley, FI.
1939 Ekspedisjonens resultat for sesongen 1938/39 ble 85.620 fat hvalolje og 173 fat spermolje. Hvalbåtene legges opp i Durban over sommeren og klargjøre for neste sesong. Kokeriet gikk videre til Liverpool via Durban med ankomst Bromborough Dock, Liverpool 18/04.

1940 Rekvirert i mars av Royal Navy.
1941 Overført til den syd afrikanske marinen i mars. Tatt i bruk av 42nd. Anti-Submarine Group som anti u-båt fartøyet HMSAS SOUTHERN ISLES (T-469) med Middelhavet som virkeområde.
Var sammen med søsterskipet HMSAS SOUTHERN MAID de to første skip som tok seg inn i Tobruk havn 27/11-1941. Dagen etter at allierte landstyrker inntok byen. Senere overført til konvoitjeneste i afrikanske farvann.
Unilever avgjorde å ikke gjenoppta hvalfangst etter krigen og solgte Southern Whaling & Sealing Co totale fangstflåte på to kokerier og 15 hvalbåter til Salvesen over ett.
Kjøpt av Salvesen i september. Fremdeles under militær kommando. SOUTHERN ISLES kom aldri i fangst for Chr. Salvesen & Co.
1945 Solgt i januar til sydafrikanske myndigheter. Navn uendret.
1946 Solgt til Union Whaling Co. Ltd., (A. E. Larsen, disp.), Durban. Klasset av Lloyds som BS* Whaling purposes.

1947 Omdøpt UNI 2, registrert i Durban, nytt kallesignal ZSQL.

1950 Ekspedisjonen avslutter fangsten og begynner på hjemveien 16/03 med kurs for Durban. 15 hvalbåter har deltatt i fangsten. Kokeriet går videre til Sandefjord via Durban og Liverpool.

1936 Built as a whale catcher SOUTHERN ISLES by Bremer Vulkan, Vegesack as one of five identical boats to Unilever's whaling company Southern Whaling & Sealing Co., (Lever Bros., N. C. Watts, mngr.), London. Delivered in June. Registered in Cape Town, call sign ZSBM.
Five identical catchers were built for the Unilever Group's whaling company Southern Whaling & Sealing Co. (SOUTHERN MAID (723), SOUTHERN SEAS (724), SOUTHERN BREEZE (725), SOUTHERN ISLES (726) and SOUTHERN GEM (752))

1940 Requested in March by the Royal Navy.
1941 Transferred to the South African Navy in March. Taken into use by 42nd. Anti-Submarine Group as anti-submarine vessel HMSAS SOUTHERN ISLES (T-469) with the Mediterranean as its scope.
Together with the sister ship HMSAS SOUTHERN MAID were the first two ships to enter Tobruk harbour 27/11-1941 after Allied land forces captured the city. Later transferred to convoy service in South-African waters.
Unilever decided not to resume whaling after the war and sold Southern Whaling & Sealing Co' total catch fleet of two factories and 15 catchers to Salvesen over one.
Purchased by Salvesen in September while still under military command but SOUTHERN ISLES never caught for Chr. Salvesen & Co.
1945 Sold in January to Union Government of South Africa. Name unchanged.
1946 Sold to Union Whaling Co. Ltd., (A. E. Larsen, disp.), Durban. Classed by Lloyd's as BS * Whaling purposes.
